International leaders attend United Cultures Forum in St. Petersburg

The 12th International United Cultures Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia, brought together representatives from approximately 70 countries to discuss cultural cooperation and the preservation of heritage. Russian President Vladimir Putin opened the forum under the theme ‘United Cultures: Shared Values,’ emphasizing the role of culture in maintaining dialogue during political or economic strain.

Somali Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Abdirahman Qasim Mohamud attended a reception hosted by Putin. Mohamud stated the forum offered Somalia an opportunity to showcase its cultural heritage and explore international partnerships for its creative industries and cultural institutions.

Palestinian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Hani Al-Hayek addressed the forum regarding the protection of cultural heritage in conflict zones. Al-Hayek called for increased international cooperation and digital documentation to safeguard Palestinian sites, particularly in Gaza, which face damage and restricted access. He also highlighted tourism as a bridge between cultures and expressed interest in revitalizing inbound tourism from Russia to historic cities like Bethlehem.
