International Leaders Express Solidarity After Kumamoto Earthquake

A magnitude‑7 earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, on July 28‑29, 2026, causing significant damage and loss of life. In the aftermath, several foreign heads of state issued messages of condolence and support.

South Korean President Lee Jae‑myung posted on social media in both Korean and Japanese, expressing sorrow for the victims and praising Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s leadership, adding that the Korean people stand in solidarity with Japan.
