International literary festivals highlight migration and travel themes
Various international literary festivals are hosting events focused on travel, adventure, and the human experience of migration.
In Puerto de la Cruz, the 14th edition of the Periplo International Travel and Adventure Literature Festival is taking place from October 19 to 25. The event features over thirty authors from various nationalities. Among the participants is Valentín Carrera, author of ‘El mundo desde abajo’, who will discuss his account of a Benedictine missionary's journey from Europe to Western Australia. The festival aims to explore themes such as forced migration, science, and identity through the lens of travel.
Simultaneously, San Luis Río Colorado is hosting the 19th International Meeting of Migrant Poets from October 19 to 23. Organized by Manuel Cuen Gamboa, the festival brings together more than 60 writers from Mexico, the United States, Peru, and El Salvador, alongside virtual participants from around the world. The event uses poetry to provide a platform for migrant voices and to reflect on the global phenomenon of human migration.
