International music competitions reach decisive stages in Spain and Chile

The sixth International Orchestra Conducting Competition at the University of Almería has entered its decisive phase. After an initial digital selection process involving 70 candidates from 30 nationalities, eight semifinalists have been announced: Florent Des Boscs (France), Juan Flórez (USA), Benjamin Huth (Netherlands), Matthew Lloyd-Wilson (Ireland), Liu Jen-jen and Vera Tianyi Lu (China), Sara Litón Castillo (Spain), and Nuria Parra Galdón (Spain).

Semifinalists will conduct Mozart pieces, such as Divertimento K. 136 or the Serenade for winds in C minor, to determine the four finalists. The final concert is scheduled for October 12 at the Auditorio Maestro Padilla.

In Chile, the 50th edition of the Sigall International Musical Performance Competition has reached its grand final stage. Following a semifinal held at the Municipal Theater of Viña del Mar, three vocalists have advanced: Daria Brusova (Russia), Jaejin Park (South Korea), and Nicolás Noguchi (Chile).

The competition, organized by the Viña del Mar Cultural Space, featured the world premiere of ‘La Tumba de los Signos,’ a musical piece shared by all contestants. The finalists will return to the theater to compete for the title.
