International Olympic Committee replaces commissions with working groups
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced a transition in its stakeholder engagement model, moving from a commission-based approach to a working group approach. This change is part of the ongoing ‘Fit for the Future’ reform process.
As a result of this assessment, the IOC will discontinue 12 commissions, including those focused on Athletes’ Entourage, Culture and Olympic Heritage, Digital Engagement and Marketing Communications, Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and the Advisory Committee on Human Rights. Other discontinued commissions include Olympic Education, Olympic Programme, Olympism365, Public Affairs and Corporate Communications, Revenues and Commercial Partnerships, Sustainability and Legacy, and Technology and Technical Innovation.
The organization stated that working groups with clearly defined mandates provide a more effective and flexible mechanism for policy shaping and decision-making. This shift is intended to allow for more targeted engagement on strategic priorities across the Olympic Movement. Several institutional bodies, such as the Athletes’ Commission, the Ethics Commission, and the Finance Commission, will continue their operations unchanged.
