International Peace Garden holds 25th anniversary 9/11 memorial
Hundreds of people gathered at the International Peace Garden, which straddles the border between Manitoba and North Dakota, to observe the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The ceremony included firefighters, politicians, military members, and aviation officials who observed a moment of silence to honor the nearly 3,000 victims and the first responders who acted heroically during the attacks.
Dave Schellenberg, vice-chair of the Manitoba Association of Fire Chiefs, noted that the significance of the day has not diminished over the past quarter-century. He specifically highlighted the 343 firefighters who died while responding to the attacks. Schellenberg stated that gathering at the Peace Garden is “especially meaningful” to demonstrate the friendship between Canada and the United States and to show the connection between firefighters on both sides of the border.
