International police operation on the Danube uncovers vessel violations

A joint security operation involving police from Slovakia, Germany, Austria, and Hungary took place on the Danube from October 12 to 16. Despite low water levels and suspended navigation, authorities conducted inspections in Bratislava, including two daytime and one nighttime patrol.

Officers inspected five large passenger vessels and one floating facility. The operation revealed several safety violations regarding the protection of crews and passengers. In one instance, a captain was found operating a vessel without the required Danube navigation permit and was subsequently fined by the Transport Authority.

Authorities also identified serious environmental violations concerning wastewater management. The operation, which was funded by the European Union, aimed to enhance international cooperation in detecting illegal transport, irregular migration, labor law violations, and environmental risks. Participating agencies included the Slovak Financial Administration, the Transport Authority, the Environmental Inspection, the Labor Inspectorate, and the European Labour Authority.
