International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum hosts new exhibitions

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum in Geneva is hosting new exhibitions exploring different facets of humanitarian action.

One exhibition, ‘Humanitarian, by Design?’, examines the essential role of design in crisis, displacement, and extreme precariousness. Featuring nearly 200 objects—many shown to the public for the first time—the display includes first aid kits, tents, prosthetics, and makeshift shelters. The exhibition focuses on three areas: the physical objects used in the field, the spaces such as camps and waiting zones, and the imagery and technologies used to represent crises.

A second exhibition, ‘Who cares?’, examines humanitarian history through the lens of gender and diversity. Developed in partnership with the University of Geneva’s Institute of Ethics, History and Humanities, the exhibition investigates who provides care, who receives it, and how these roles are perceived. It highlights the lived experiences of individuals often rendered invisible by history, using a selection of objects and narratives to prompt reflection on the perception of humanitarian workers and those in need.
