Resistencia, Argentina launches Bienal Internacional de Esculturas 2026

The Bienal Internacional de Esculturas 2026 officially opened in Resistencia, Chaco, with ceremonies at the Domo del Centenario and the Parque 2 de Febrero. Governor Leandro Zdero, Mayor Roy Nikisch, and officials from the provincial legislature and the Foundation Urunday attended, alongside judges from Colombia, Latvia and Japan.

The ten‑artist International Competition, selected from 70 countries out of 439 submissions, will run from 17 to 26 July. Sculptors will work publicly on travertine marble and stainless‑steel, creating works that will become part of the city’s permanent open‑air museum. A parallel Decimo Encuentro de Escultores Invitados will feature additional artists using a wide range of techniques and materials.

Organisers expect the edition to surpass the previous record of more than 1.2 million visitors, drawing tourists and families during the winter holidays and reinforcing Resistencia’s reputation as the “City of Sculptures.”
