International seminar in Lazio discusses Andrei Sakharov and freedom of thought
An international seminar held at the Lazio Regional Council in Italy focused on the legacy of Andrei Sakharov, the scientist and dissident known for his battles for fundamental rights, freedom of thought, and peace. The event aimed to connect Sakharov’s intellectual and moral heritage to contemporary geopolitical tensions and the ongoing defense of individual liberties.
The seminar was promoted with the involvement of the European Institute for Training, a non-profit organization with permanent accreditation at the European Parliament. Discussions also touched upon the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, an award established by the European Parliament to honor those defending human rights.
Related academic analyses from the European Parliament’s study center examined the legal frameworks of freedom of thought, conscience, and religion. These studies highlighted the protections provided by Article 10 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and the increasing role of the Court of Justice in addressing non-discrimination in the workplace regarding religious or philosophical symbols.
