International Soca Monarch to return for Trinidad Carnival 2027

The International Soca Monarch competition is set to return for the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival 2027. Scorch Events announced that the competition will take place on February 5, 2027, following a lengthy absence. The revived event will feature three distinct categories: Power Soca, Groovy Soca, and a newly introduced Steam category, which reflects the growing influence of the genre among younger audiences.

The 2027 edition will include a cultural tribute to the late calypso icon Slinger “Mighty Sparrow” Francisco. Finalists will be required to incorporate a tribute to Sparrow—through lyrics, melody, or costume—into their Fantastic Friday presentations to contribute to their overall score.

In related music news, the September 2026 CEM Top 10 Soca Singles chart shows momentum building for the upcoming Carnival cycle. Patrice Roberts and MadLypso have reached the number one spot with their track “Trouble,” while Tano and Coutain hold the second position with “Suga Dumplin.”
