International study examines ADHD medication and self-harm risks

A large international study has provided new insights into the safety concerns surrounding ADHD medication. While there has been long-standing suspicion that medications used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) might increase the risk of self-harm, the research suggests that medication may play a smaller role in these incidents than previously assumed.

Additionally, the period immediately preceding the start of therapy has been identified as a time of highest risk for self-harming behaviors in individuals with ADHD.
