International Trabant Register celebrates 30th anniversary

The International Trabant Register (Intertrab) is celebrating its 30th anniversary in Zwickau, Germany. Hundreds of enthusiasts gathered to honor the legacy of the Duroplast small car, which has transitioned from a staple of East German streets to a celebrated cult icon.

Intertrab chairman Wolfgang Kießling noted the presence of younger fans and international visitors, including those from Switzerland. The organization, founded in 1996, aims to preserve the history and fascination of the vehicle following the mass disposal of East German cars like the Trabant and Wartburg after German reunification.

The association maintains a diverse fleet of over 20 different Trabant models, ranging from the P 50 and camping versions to the four-stroke model developed toward the end of the GDR era. Their collection also includes historical memorabilia and rare items, such as a white-and-green police-themed Trabant used for promotional purposes.
