International Union of Architects Sets 2026 World Architecture Day Theme on Housing Rights

The International Union of Architects (UIA) convened a global congress in Barcelona, gathering representatives from over 130 countries to discuss the state of architecture and urbanism. The congress, held under the theme “Architecture for a Planet in Transition,” produced a roadmap addressing emerging challenges in construction, sustainability, and societal change.

Separately, the UIA announced that World Architecture Day 2026, scheduled for 5 October, will carry the theme “Housing is a Human Right. Build It.” This aligns with the United Nations’ World Habitat Day focus on adequate housing and calls on architects worldwide to promote equitable, safe, and affordable housing through design, research, and advocacy.
