International Weightlifting Federation debuts 2x2 mixed team format
The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has introduced a new 2x2 mixed team competition format, debuting the event in Lausanne. The inaugural tournament featured eight teams, each consisting of one man and one woman, representing Switzerland, Germany, France, Romania, and a refugee team. The refugee team secured the victory.
In this format, each match includes three snatch attempts and three clean and jerk attempts per team. Points are calculated based on the weight lifted relative to the athlete's body weight. IWF President Mohammed Jalood stated the federation is determined to explore new ways to present weightlifting to athletes and the sporting community. The test was met with enthusiasm from coaches and athletes, who noted the strategic depth and fast-paced rhythm of the matches.
