Internazionale Festival celebrates 20th edition in Ferrara, Italy, Oct 2‑4

The Internazionale Festival marks its 20th anniversary with a three‑day event in Ferrara, Italy, from October 2 to October 4, 2024. Organized by the weekly magazine Internazionale and the Comune di Ferrara, the festival will host more than 200 journalists and media professionals from over 30 countries.

Participants will discuss a wide range of topics, including artificial intelligence, collective memory, feminism, extremism, global conflicts, local identity, migration, integration, human rights and climate security. Notable speakers include Australian writer Sarah Ahmed, Palestinian architect Yara Sharif, U.S. journalist Jon Lee Anderson, climate‑security expert Olivia Lazard, Italian novelist Nicola Lagioia (who will present a new novel), Ukrainian journalist Anna Romandash, Brazilian activist Flavia da Silva Candido, Burmese activist Maw Htun Aung, Israeli historian Omer Bartov and Palestinian poet Mohammed El Kurd.

Cartoonist Zerocalcare will hold two exclusive dialogues, one with ecologist‑author Simon Paré‑Poupart and another with Albanian philosopher‑writer Lea Ypi. The festival’s logo, an anthropomorphic planet drawn by Anna Keen, features a drum to highlight the anniversary and draw attention to emerging and forgotten crises. Chiara Nielsen, vice‑director of Internazionale and director of Internazionale at Ferrara, said the drum symbolizes the urgency of decision‑making and action on global wars and the climate emergency.
