Interpol cancels international alert on 24,511 Syrian passports

Interpol has canceled an international circular issued in 2024 that flagged 24,511 Syrian passports as stolen. The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced that a review conducted in coordination with Interpol determined the original claims were based on incorrect facts.

The issue originated in November 2024, when previous authorities claimed that passports had been stolen from a migration and passport center in Aleppo. However, recent investigations and record reviews revealed that these passports were issued through official channels and delivered to their rightful owners.

The inclusion of these documents in Interpol’s database caused significant travel disruptions for Syrian citizens, including detentions and the confiscation of travel documents in various countries. The cancellation aims to rectify these errors and restore the validity of the documents within international law enforcement databases.
