Interpol fugitive arrested in Sarmiento, Argentina

Argentine National Gendarmerie officers arrested a Haitian national in Sarmiento, San Juan, during a routine checkpoint on National Route 40. The individual was traveling on a long-distance bus toward Jujuy when authorities identified an active Interpol Red Notice against him.

Investigations revealed the man had entered Argentina by evading formal border crossings. The international arrest warrant was issued on June 2, 2023, by the 7th Court of Guarantees in Chile, where he faces criminal proceedings involving risks of flight and danger to the public. Following orders from the Federal Prosecutor's Office of San Juan, the suspect was transferred to the Provincial Penitentiary Service in Chimbas to await extradition proceedings to Chile.
