Interpol releases eighth album ‘This Mirror Weighs a Ton’
The New York-based band Interpol has released their eighth studio album, ‘This Mirror Weighs a Ton’, marking 25 years since the group's formation. The new record represents a sonic departure from the band’s traditional post-punk roots, which were characterized by angular guitars, pulsing bass, and Paul Banks’ signature baritone vocals.
Unlike their previous work, this album incorporates a wider array of instrumentation, including strings, piano, woodwinds, and subtle electronic elements. Guitarist Daniel Kessler noted that the band continues to work through a natural creative process, driven by the chemistry between long-standing members Paul Banks, Sam Fogarino, and Kessler, alongside Brad Truax and Brandon Curtis.
The release follows their 2020 album, ‘The Other Side of Make-Believe’, and continues the band's evolution from the indie rock revivalism of the early 2000s toward more experimental, chamber-pop influenced arrangements.
