Interpol releases eighth studio album ‘This Mirror Weighs a Ton’
New York post-punk band Interpol has released their eighth studio album, ‘This Mirror Weighs a Ton’. Recorded in Manhattan, the project marks a return to the band’s home city after their previous release was recorded remotely during the pandemic.
The album features a expanded lineup, officially transitioning from a trio to a quintet with the inclusion of bassist Brad Truax and keyboardist Brandon Curtis. Produced by Andrew Wyatt, known for his work with artists such as Miley Cyrus and Charli xcx, the record maintains the band’s signature dark, introspective sound while exploring new sonic textures.
Themes in the music include dystopian elements and reflections on modern society, such as the track ‘Iron City’, which explores a vision of New York influenced by artificial intelligence. Frontman Paul Banks has described the recording process as an ‘unexpected alchemy’ that has provided new energy to the group.
