Inter's Paolillo backs Marotta, critiques national team leadership
Former Inter chief executive Ernesto Paolillo praised sporting director Gabriele Marcello Marotta for reinforcing the squad within the club’s financial limits, saying Marotta consistently chooses well without extravagant spending. Paolillo expressed confidence that the club is operating at its capacity and highlighted Marotta’s calm, non‑showy approach.
He also turned to the Italian football federation, commending Roberto Mancini’s quality and experience while questioning the recent appointment of former player Andrea Pirlo as national coach. Paolillo argued that a younger, bolder coaching profile is needed to rebuild the national team’s technical structure and suggested that established figures like Francesco Maldini and Claudio Leonardo have made misguided choices.
