Interstate 70 closures planned for bridge repairs in Wheatridge

The Colorado Department of Transportation has announced full closures of Interstate 70 in both directions to facilitate “critical bridge repairs” over Kipling Street (Colorado Highway 391) in Wheatridge. These closures are expected to impact travelers moving between the mountains and Denver International Airport.

The work is scheduled over two consecutive weekends. The first closure will run from 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, through 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22. The second will occur from 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, through 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29. Each closure period will last approximately 80 hours, and motorists should anticipate delays of 30 minutes or more.

A detour will reroute I-70 traffic through the Kipling Street interchange using on- and off-ramps, which will serve as temporary travel lanes. Consequently, motorists will be unable to enter or exit I-70 at Kipling Street during these periods.
