Intervalo da Cidadania project promotes inclusion in Brazilian schools
The ‘Intervalo da Cidadania’ project has expanded to 20 cities, focusing on inclusion, respect for differences, and the empowerment of people with disabilities and autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
In Ponta Porã, students at the Escola Municipal João Carlos Pinheiro Marques utilized microbit programming boards to create an accessible communication device for deaf individuals. The device displays words such as ‘water’ or ‘bathroom’ when buttons are pressed, facilitating interaction. This initiative was supported by a Libras (Brazilian Sign Language) interpreter teacher.
The project encourages students to solve practical problems regarding accessibility and autonomy, fostering creativity and empathy. The school involved is among 30 institutions participating in the program for the second consecutive year.
