Interventional cardiology developments in Venezuela and Nicaragua

The Venezuelan Society of Interventional Cardiology (SOVECI) has announced its XXIII Congress, scheduled for October 9 and 10, 2026, at the Hotel Eurobuilding in Caracas. The event aims to provide medical education and scientific updates for cardiologists and healthcare professionals, covering topics such as coronary intervention, structural cardiology, and new therapeutic technologies.

In Nicaragua, interventional cardiology is advancing through minimally invasive procedures at the Hospital Fernando Vélez Paiz. Specialist Dr. Bayardo Ordóñez reported that over 500 coronary procedures and more than 24 transcatheter aortic valve replacements have been performed in the country over the last year. These high-complexity, minimally invasive techniques use catheters to avoid open-heart surgery, allowing for faster patient recovery.
