Inti Raymi 2026 festivals attract thousands in Peru and Ecuador

Several regional festivities marking the Inti Raymi solstice are taking place across Peru and Ecuador in June 2026. In the La Victoria district of Lima, the municipality organized a free “Festival Ancestral: Solsticio de Invierno” at the Huaca Santa Catalina, featuring traditional ceremonies, a fashion show of Peruvian‑inspired designs, and a Pago a la Tierra ritual.

In Cusco, the Chamber of Tourism expects between 180,000 and 200,000 visitors during the June celebrations, noting that inadequate road connectivity and ongoing urban works pose logistical challenges for both tourists and local residents.

Ecuador’s provincial government in Tungurahua promoted Inti Raymi events that showcase the customs of five ancestral peoples, with activities scheduled for 19‑21 June and additional fairs in July. The Saraguro community’s FIIS will host its 2026 Inti Raymi in San Isidro on 21 June, highlighting contests such as “the largest alforja” and the exhibition of the oldest jar, alongside traditional purification baths and gastronomy fairs.

In Cuenca, a multi‑day cultural programme includes concerts, art exhibitions, and Inti Raymi celebrations at the Ingapirca and Pumapungo archaeological sites, offering concerts, inter‑cultural fairs, and ceremonial events that invite the public to participate in the ancient solstice rites.
