Into The Great Wide Open festival highlights music and sustainability

The sixteenth edition of the Into The Great Wide Open festival on Vlieland has concluded, highlighting both musical performances and advancements in sustainable event management.

Musically, the festival featured diverse acts, including a notable performance by multi-instrumentalist Brighde Chambeul, who utilized the Scottish smallpipe, synthesizers, and percussion to create atmospheric soundscapes. Other performers included the Irish folk band Madra Salach.

On the operational side, the festival serves as a testing ground for circularity and climate neutrality within a Natura 2000 protected area. The event utilizes electric construction logistics and experiments with charging large-scale batteries using mobile electric vehicles to power stages. Sustainability lead Arnout de la Houssaye noted that these practical applications, referred to as the ‘Construction Site of the Future,’ provide valuable learning opportunities for the broader construction and energy sectors regarding mobile energy storage and distribution.
