Dominican Republic implements digital traffic enforcement and road safety measures

Authorities and transport experts in the Dominican Republic are addressing mobility and road safety through technological modernization and stricter enforcement. The National Institute of Transit and Land Transport (INTRANT) is planning the implementation of digital fines and photo-based enforcement to improve traffic management and transparency. This initiative aims to reduce reliance on physical controls and allow for better verification of vehicle inspections and driver histories.

In recent enforcement operations, DIGESETT and INTRANT intercepted 41 heavy vehicles for illegally using the left lane on the Autovía del Coral, a high-accident zone. Violators face fines of 10,000 pesos.

Experts and officials emphasize that long-term solutions require decentralized urban planning to reduce the massive daily concentration of trips toward the National District. Discussions also highlight the need for increased municipal resources and improved public transportation efficiency to decrease dependence on private vehicles.
