Intrepid Travel announces top 10 emerging destinations for 2027

Intrepid Travel, in collaboration with the trend forecasting agency Globetrender, has released its ‘Not Hot List’ for 2027. The list identifies ten emerging travel destinations intended to offer alternatives to overcrowded tourist hubs and promote sustainable tourism growth.

Destinations were selected based on three criteria: lower visitor numbers compared to similar locations, tourism readiness regarding infrastructure, and upcoming developments such as new connectivity, major events, or infrastructure projects scheduled for 2027.

The selected locations include: 1. Samburu National Reserve, Kenya 2. Mestia, Georgia 3. Northern Highlands, Jordan 4. Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada 5. Alonisos, Greece 6. Dili, Timor-Leste 7. Pekoe Trail, Sri Lanka 8. Liepāja, Latvia 9. Carretera Austral, Chile 10. Dalsland, Sweden

Liepāja, Latvia, was specifically highlighted due to its status as the European Capital of Culture in 2027. The city, described as the ‘Baltic Mediterranean’, is expected to host over 500 cultural events during that year, ranging from international exhibitions to music festivals.
