Intrepid Travel starts 20,000‑tree reforestation in Kenya’s Mau Forest

Intrepid Travel has secured a licence from the Kenya Forest Service to restore 15 acres (about six hectares) of the Mau Forest, a critical water catchment for the Mara River and nearby wildlife reserves. The tour operator will plant 20,000 native trees over a five‑year period, beginning in 2027, with a goal of planting 5,000 seedlings each season. More than 4,000 trees have already been established on the site. Travelers on selected East Africa itineraries will be invited to visit, learn about the forest’s ecological importance, and help plant or water seedlings. The project is part of Intrepid’s 2030 impact strategy and aligns with Kenya’s national target of planting 15 billion trees by 2032. Local NGO Rhino Arc and the Kenya Forest Service are partners in the effort, which also receives support from Intrepid’s Climate Impact Fund.
