Intrinsic open sources foundational industrial robotics software

Intrinsic, an Alphabet-owned unit, has released Intrinsic Core, an open-source software foundation for industrial robotics. The release includes control, motion planning, grasp planning, simulation, pose estimation, and camera calibration software under a permissive Apache 2.0 license.

Designed to be ROS-compatible, the platform aims to reduce the time robotics developers spend building foundational infrastructure from scratch. Intrinsic also introduced the Open Machine Tending Solution, an open reference design for AI-enabled CNC machine tending that supports hardware from manufacturers such as FANUC and Universal Robots.

Following its transition from an Alphabet ‘Other Bet’ to a distinct group within Google, Intrinsic is integrating its platform with Gemini models, Google Cloud, and Google DeepMind research. Company leadership described the move as a commitment to the robotics community, providing the same capabilities used in real-world manufacturing deployments.
