Intuitive invests $165 million in Mexicali, creating 1,500 medical‑device jobs
Intuitive announced a $165 million investment to build its third facility in Mexicali, Baja California. The 440,000‑square‑foot, highly automated plant will produce robotic surgical instruments for the da Vinci system and is expected to create about 1,500 direct, highly‑skilled jobs. A fourth building is also planned, adding roughly 500 additional support and corporate positions, further cementing Mexicali’s role as a leading hub for advanced medical‑device manufacturing in Latin America.
The city’s broader labor market showed continued strength, reporting 2,100 new maquiladora jobs in April 2026 and a total manufacturing workforce of 80,720, representing 24% of the state’s sector employment. Export values rose 4.4% year‑on‑year to 25.8 billion pesos during the January‑April period, highlighting the region’s growing integration in North‑American supply chains.
