Inulin fiber supplement may reduce knee arthritis pain
A clinical trial led by researchers at the University of Nottingham suggests that a daily prebiotic fiber supplement, specifically inulin, may help manage knee osteoarthritis (OA). According to findings published in the journal Nutrients, participants taking inulin experienced significant reductions in pain, improved grip strength, and decreased pain sensitivity.
The study also noted higher adherence rates for the fiber supplement compared to traditional interventions. Only 3.6% of participants in the inulin group dropped out, whereas 21% of those assigned to a digital physical therapy program did so. The research highlights a potential link between gut health, digestive bacteria, and the body's ability to process pain and maintain muscle function.
