Inuvik (Mike Zubko) Airport to receive $49.5 million for modernization

The Government of Canada, in partnership with the Government of the Northwest Territories, has announced up to $49.5 million in funding through the Arctic Infrastructure Fund to modernize the Inuvik (Mike Zubko) Airport. The project, scheduled to begin this fall, will focus on upgrading the existing runway and access road to improve safety, reliability, and operational capacity.

These upgrades build upon a previous $230 million investment from the Department of National Defence intended to extend and modernize the airport’s runway. The improvements are designed to strengthen dual-use infrastructure, lower transportation costs for Northern communities, and enhance Canada’s operational readiness in the Arctic.

In a broader multi-project funding announcement in Yellowknife, nearly $52 million was allocated to various Northwest Territories projects. Another significant portion of the funding is designated for a new hangar for the North-Wright Airways hub in Norman Wells.
