Invap expands AI-powered wildfire detection system

Invap, a technology company from Río Negro, is expanding its Aleph-fuego platform, an early warning system designed to prevent forest fires. Developed for the Servicio de Prevención y Lucha contra Incendios Forestales (Splif), the system utilizes cameras and artificial intelligence to detect smoke columns.

When smoke is identified, the system automatically moves the cameras and sends information to a monitoring center, as well as notifications via WhatsApp. To ensure accuracy, engineers have been training the AI model using specific local imagery to help the algorithms distinguish between actual smoke and environmental factors like fog, clouds, or dust raised by vehicles on dirt roads.

Following its implementation during the summer season, the system was further refined during the autumn using controlled burns. Future developments for the platform include real-time traceability to track the location of firefighting crews on a map, a feature that has already been utilized during search and rescue operations.
