Inverclyde partners to develop marine engineering centre of excellence
Inverclyde Council, the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), and West College Scotland have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a marine engineering centre of excellence at Inchgreen. The partnership aims to create a state-of-the-art innovation and training hub designed to provide research capacity for businesses and a direct pipeline of skilled talent into local jobs.
The proposed centre may utilize £20 million in UK Government funding, subject to the approval of a full business case. Research and training areas are expected to include marine robotics, naval architecture, plating, and welding, with a focus on supporting both the defence and net zero sectors.
NMIS, which is operated by the University of Strathclyde, will work alongside its partners to define the specific research, development, and educational facilities required for the site.
