Investigation into British tourist death in Sicily shifts focus

Investigators in Sicily are exploring a new hypothesis regarding the death of Benjamin John Braithwaite, a 34-year-old British tourist from Leeds. Braithwaite's body was discovered naked near an abandoned farmhouse in the Piano Milo area, between Canicattini and Noto, during the night of September 12-13.

Authorities are currently considering whether the death resulted from an erotic game gone wrong involving voluntary asphyxiation. This theory follows the discovery of marks on the neck consistent with a rope found near the body. Investigators have largely ruled out suicide and esoteric rituals after reviewing the victim's personal diary, which described him as being in a happy period of his life.

The Noto Carabinieri, acting under the direction of the Siracusa Prosecutor's Office, are reconstructing the victim's movements and social interactions since his arrival in Sicily. Braithwaite had reportedly joined a nature-based camping group known as ‘Le fatine’ after seeing their social media advertisements. An autopsy is scheduled for September 22 to determine the exact cause of death.
