Investigation launched into fatal scooter accident on SS 113 in Sicily

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, at the Barone Romeo hospital in Patti for 18-year-old Edoardo Ratto. Ratto was killed following a scooter accident on October 23 on the SS 113 near Capo d’Orlando in the San Gregorio area.

Authorities are investigating whether the condition or placement of the roadside guardrails contributed to the fatality. Prosecutors are examining if the barriers were outdated or improperly installed, as investigators consider the possibility that the impact with the guardrail caused the fatal injuries. While no suspects have been identified, the investigation is focusing on the safety standards of the road section near the Antinori viaduct.

A second passenger, a 20-year-old, is currently recovering in the surgery department at the Patti hospital. His condition is reportedly improving following a surgical procedure.
