Investigations launched into worker death at Akragas Viaduct

The Messina Ris (Scientific Investigation Department) of the Carabinieri has been appointed to investigate the death of 53-year-old worker Gerlando “Gino” Brucceri. Brucceri died on July 7 at the Akragas Viaduct (also known as the Morandi Bridge) maintenance site in Agrigento.

While the death was initially considered a possible fatal medical event, prosecutors are now investigating several inconsistencies regarding marks found on the victim's body and elements at the scene. Currently, 16 individuals are under investigation for manslaughter, including Anas executives, managers from the contracting company, and some of the victim's colleagues.

In addition to forensic specialists, a computer consultant has been tasked with extracting data, chats, and files from the victim's smartphone to assist the inquiry.
