Investigations target public transport systems in Brazil
Authorities in Brazil are investigating irregularities within municipal public transport systems in Campo Grande and Várzea Grande.
In Campo Grande, following a Parliamentary Inquiry Committee (CPI) report that identified technical failures and contractual breaches, the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade) has approved the full sale of Consórcio Guaicurus to Maas Administração e Participações Ltda. Local officials state that the intervention and subsequent sale must be accompanied by significant investments in fleet renewal to benefit citizens.
In Várzea Grande, a Gaeco investigation known as Operation Cathedra Venalis has uncovered alleged collusion between local council members and União Transporte e Turismo Ltda. The inquiry suggests a corruption scheme involving the offering of positions and payments to secure political support. Investigators are examining administrative acts signed at the end of the previous mayoral term and have identified specific vehicles within the concessionaire's fleet as part of the probe.
