Invima issues alert over unverified creatine monohydrate products

Colombia’s National Institute for Food and Drug Surveillance (Invima) has issued an alert regarding certain products being sold as creatine monohydrate that lack verifiable origins. The warning follows a reported case of poisoning in Bogotá allegedly linked to the consumption of such products.

Invima clarified that some substances are being sold as raw materials intended for manufacturing processes rather than direct human consumption. Because these raw materials bypass the necessary quality, purity, and traceability controls required for finished supplements, consuming them directly poses significant health risks.

Authorities advise consumers, athletes, and trainers to verify the sanitary registration of any dietary supplement via the Invima website before purchase. The agency specifically cautioned against buying products through informal channels or social media, urging the public to use only reliable distributors and established commercial outlets.
