Inwit and WINDTRE negotiate data center conversion and potential delisting
Inwit and WINDTRE are nearing an agreement to convert approximately 20 network sites into data centers across Italy. The deal involves transforming existing real estate into strategic digital infrastructure hubs. Under the proposed terms, a joint venture led by Inwit would manage the operations, with WINDTRE maintaining a minority stake to ensure industrial collaboration.
For WINDTRE, the transaction is expected to provide immediate liquidity in the tens of millions of euros and reduce management costs related to maintenance and energy consumption. This follows a period where the operator reported revenues of 1.842 billion euros for the first half of the year, a 4% decrease compared to the previous year.
Separately, major shareholders of Inwit, including Ardian and Oak Holdings, are reportedly evaluating a potential take-private move to delist the company from the stock exchange. The move could involve an offer for minority shares and may include participation from the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund, Mubadala. Estimates suggest the cost of delisting could be around 1.7 billion euros. However, Inwit faces ongoing operational challenges regarding contract disputes with major clients Tim and Fastweb-Vodafone, which account for over 80% of its revenue.
