IO Interactive launches James Bond game 007 First Light amid leak and DRM debate

IO Interactive's new James Bond title, 007 First Light, is set for a global launch on 27 May 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a Nintendo Switch version slated for later in the year. Early this week a 13‑minute segment of the opening mission leaked online, showing a helicopter crash, underwater rescue and a blend of stealth, combat and cinematic chase sequences.

Following the leak, the developer posted the same footage on its official YouTube channel, inviting fans to view the opening “as intended.” The game portrays a younger, less experienced Bond learning MI6 tactics, borrowing mechanics from IO Interactive’s Hitman series while adding new gadgets and story‑driven moments. Pre‑order customers can receive a deluxe upgrade with 24‑hour early access.

The PC version will ship with Denuvo anti‑tamper DRM, a decision that has drawn criticism from some Steam users over potential performance impacts. Despite the controversy, anticipation remains strong, making 007 First Light one of the month’s most high‑profile releases.
