Ioanna Gaka held at Korydallos prison amid Mazonakis investigation
Ioanna Gaka, a 56-year-old doctor held in pretrial detention regarding the death of Giorgos Mazonakis, has begun her stay at the Korydallos women's prison. According to reports from the Star TV program ‘Protos Kafes’, Gaka is being held alone in a cell on the first floor of the women's wing, which includes a private shower and a nearby payphone.
Reports indicate that Gaka has made several requests regarding her living conditions, including painting the cell, repairing the shower, and performing a biological cleaning of the space. While she was permitted to keep an hypoallergenic pillow and a special mattress, her suitcase was denied entry.
In her daily routine, Gaka reportedly practices yoga and uses towels to cover her ears to block out songs by Giorgos Mazonakis played by other inmates in common areas. Her presence has led other prisoners to assign her the nicknames ‘the lady from Versailles’ and ‘the countess of Psychiko’. For security reasons, her time outside the cell is limited to two 40-minute sessions per day.
