Ioannina International Airport hosts over 20 private aircraft
More than 20 light aircraft from the ‘Private Pilot Expedition to Georgia 2026’ mission landed at Ioannina International Airport ‘King Pyrros’. The aircraft, arriving from Turkey, used Ioannina as a primary station and entry point into the Schengen Area during their return journey from Georgia and the Caucasus.
The pilots and passengers remained in Ioannina for two days, visiting the city and the surrounding region. Participants expressed high satisfaction with the airport's services, specifically noting the professionalism of air traffic controllers, the efficiency of administrative procedures, and the ground handling services provided by Skyserv.
Local tourism development groups highlighted the event as an example of how general aviation can drive high-value tourism, benefiting local hotels, restaurants, and transport services. The successful hosting of the expedition demonstrates the airport's capacity to serve organized, high-income international aviation missions.
