Ioannina Municipal Council approves conversion of DHANETAI

The Ioannina Municipal Council has approved the process to convert the municipal company DHANETAI into a single-shareholder Local Government Development Organization. The decision, proposed by Mayor Thomas Begas, follows new provisions in the Local Government Code.

Under the new legal framework, municipal companies must either be liquidated or converted into Development Organizations by December 31, 2026, to avoid automatic dissolution on January 1, 2027. The Mayor emphasized that conversion is the only viable path to preserve the company’s assets and operations.

DHANETAI is described as a financially stable entity with four owned properties, an annual turnover of approximately €225,000 from leases, and cash reserves approaching €590,000. The transition aims to transform the company into a modern operational tool to support municipal projects and asset management while avoiding the legal and financial complexities of liquidation.
