Ioannina Municipality introduces new safety rules for Pyrsinella Park

The Municipality of Ioannina has announced a new framework of rules and inspections for Pyrsinella Park following a fatal attack where a pet dog killed another dog. The incident has renewed discussions regarding the safe coexistence of humans and animals in the area.

Deputy Mayor Petros Palachas noted that while the stray animal service does not have jurisdiction over pet dogs, the specific incident is being investigated by the relevant authorities, including a requested veterinary examination. The municipality is using this event to activate a pre-prepared intervention plan for the park.

Key measures include an organized operation to collect stray animals within the park and daily inspections to ensure pet owners comply with safety regulations. The municipality emphasized that pet owners have specific obligations when bringing animals into public spaces to ensure the safety of visitors and other animals.
