Ioannina school cleaners protest unpaid wages

The Association of School Cleaners of Ioannina Prefecture has issued a formal complaint against the Ioannina municipal authority regarding unpaid wages. Despite previous commitments from the Director and the Head of the Education Department that payments would be made by October 12, the workers report they have yet to receive their earnings.

The workers, who returned to their roles on September 1 following two months of unemployment, stated that the delay is causing severe financial hardship, affecting their ability to pay for essential needs such as rent, electricity, and heating.

The Association also criticized the Mayor's conduct during a Municipal Council meeting on October 14. They alleged that the Mayor made personal attacks against the Association's president, accusing her of creating “artificial tension” and suggesting that other workers were not facing issues. The Association rejected claims of bureaucratic obstacles, noting that the municipality successfully processed a 7.17 million euro tender for cleaning services without similar delays.
