Ioannina to host public health event on obesity science

The Municipality of Ioannina is organizing an open information event titled ‘Obesity Without Guilt: Science Has Solutions’ on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Held at the ‘D. Chatzis’ Municipal Cultural Multipurpose Center, the event aims to educate the public on obesity as a complex health issue, debunking common myths and stereotypes while highlighting modern scientific approaches for prevention and treatment.

The initiative is being implemented by the Directorate of Social Policy and Public Health of the Municipality of Ioannina, in collaboration with the Company of Metabolism, Nutrition and Well-being and the ‘Imeroessa’ Support Association for People with Obesity, under the auspices of the University of Ioannina.

Presentations will cover the prevalence of obesity in the Greek population, its impact on cardiovascular health, the importance of healthy dietary habits from childhood, and the social stigma associated with the condition. The event will feature scientists from the University of Ioannina and health professionals, concluding with a 35-minute open discussion allowing citizens to ask questions and receive expert answers.
