Ioannina welfare facilities face underfunding and staff shortages

Ioannina Member of Parliament Ioannis Tsimaris visited the Asylum of Aniaton and ELEPAP in Ioannina to assess their operational status. During the visit to the Asylum of Aniaton, which currently hosts 83 adults and 11 children, leadership highlighted critical issues including low state funding and severe staff shortages exacerbated by employee transfers.

Staff members at the Asylum raised concerns regarding the lack of special allowances, which differ from those provided in the hospital sector, and the failure to recognize COVID-19 period credits. There are also discussions regarding the potential conversion of the Asylum into a facility exclusively for persons with disabilities and its participation in the Interreg Greece–Albania program to promote accessible tourism.

Following the Asylum visit, Tsimaris met with the administration and staff of ELEPAP Ioannina to discuss similar operational challenges.
