Ioannis Koutsogiannis, former PASOK official and Deputy Minister, dies at 92

Ioannis Koutsogiannis, a prominent Greek politician and military figure, has passed away at the age of 92. A founding member of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK), Koutsogiannis held several significant roles, including serving as a Member of Parliament for Argolis and as the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications under the government of Andreas Papandreou.

Koutsogiannis's life was marked by both political service and resistance to the military junta. After graduating from the Evelpidon Military Academy in 1954, he served as a volunteer lieutenant in Cyprus between 1965 and 1966. During the dictatorship, he was dismissed from the army, arrested, tortured by the EAT/ESA, and exiled to Makrakomi. Following the restoration of democracy, he became a key figure in PASOK and later returned to the military, eventually being awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant General of the Hellenic Army in 1996.

His funeral services are scheduled to take place this Saturday at the Holy Church of Agios Petros in Argos, where he was born and where he spent much of his political career. He will be buried in the Cemetery of Panagia.
